There is an abundance of natural lands surrounding the Chevy Chase area, with Montgomery County leading the nation in agricultural land preservation. Over thirty per cent of the County's land is parkland, agricultural reserve or other open-space land.

Chevy Chase itself has four small parks, which provide a wide range of facilities for all ages, including playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, and multi-use courts. There are more than 100 miles of trails spread throughout the county for walking and biking. Many of these trails cross through stream valley parks, and there are several recreational areas located along the streams. Regional parks offer a wide selection of facilities, and several thousands of acres of conservation parks are available to be enjoyed in their natural state.

The Leland Community Center in town provides a wide assortment of recreational opportunities. The indoor programs include basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, and weights and exercise. The center offers a variety of classes, sports programs, family special events, as well as summer and holiday camps.

There are two excellent private golf courses in Chevy Chase. The Chevy Chase Club was originally founded in 1892 and is one of the first 100 golf clubs established in the nation. Interesting Facts/Historic Buildings and Places
The town’s history begins with the Chevy Chase Land Company, which was formed in the 1890’s. It was founded by Francis G. Newlands and William M. Stewart, who had made fortunes in the gold and silver mines of the west. Purchasing thousands of acres of land in the area, they began to develop the land as a residential streetcar suburb. Their leading purchase was Chevy Chase, a 305-acre plot of land straddling Maryland and the District of Columbia.

After World War I, the town flourished, as the development of the automobile made living outside of the District a reasonable option for its residents. The 1920’s brought great growth to Chevy Chase, and the 1930’s brought numerous improvements to the town.

It is conjectured that the community was named for an old English ballad.
Some people speculate that actor Chevy Chase was nicknamed by his grandmother after the town. His real first name is actually Cornelius. Chevy Chase is the birthplace of Jason Conley, a college basketball player for the Missouri Tigers.

Real Estate Tips
Bargain Properties >Advice From Real Estate Agents

When buying a home, it is essential to cooperate as closely as possible with your real estate agent. This can be challenging, especially if your agent asks you to do some things that you don't particularly want to do to in order to get you moved into your new home as quickly as possible.

When real estate agents advise you regarding ways to make the transaction work, they are acting as part coach and part business consultant. If you find the house you love and want to "sleep on" the decision for a few days, the agent knows that you run the risk of losing the house. If you are inclined to complicate your offer with clauses that might make the contract unattractive to the sellers, the agent may ask you to consider some modifications. Should you call the week before the closing with an attack of "buyer's remorse", your agent knows the cure. Following your real estate agent's suggestions will increase your chances for a successful move!
